The Two Shell Essential Mix is now up on the duo’s own SoundCloud. The masked London pair took over Radio 1 on 10 October. Their album Infinite Now followed six days later.
It’s a full two hours. The BBC’s tracklist runs to 73 entries, and it opens on the intro to D’Angelo’s “Really Love”. Their own “Super Soft” comes straight after.
What’s in the Two Shell Essential Mix
Bass heads should start at the top. The first hour digs deep into the UK underground. Peverelist’s “Slice Of Life” lands early. Blawan, Pearson Sound and K-Lone all follow.
Further in, Pinch’s “Qawwali” gets a spin. So does El-B’s “Romp”, next to Martyn and Om Unit’s “Tracksuit Dub”. There’s also the 2021 VIP of Zed Bias’ “Basic Needs”.
Two Shell bring their own edits as well. Burial’s “Archangel” and The Streets’ “Blinded By The Lights” both appear as “Re-Shelled” versions.
Then the second hour turns. Daft Punk’s “Digital Love” goes in next to album cut “Technology”, and both come back as edits soon after. The run home is pure nostalgia. Basement Jaxx’s “Where’s Your Head At” arrives in its Stanton Warriors remix. Madonna, Avicii and Booka Shade aren’t far behind. The Futureheads’ “Worry About It Later” plays near the very end.
From Livity Sound to Infinite Now
Infinite Now came out on 16 October through Young. It’s ten tracks and 40 minutes long. Five of those tracks feature in the mix, including “The Nightmare”, “Follow” and “Lose Control”. It follows IIcons, which they released in 2025.
The Bristol records in the first hour aren’t a random choice, either. Two Shell’s debut, the Access EP, came out on Peverelist’s Bristol label Livity Sound in October 2019. Joe Milli, another Livity name, is in here too with “Mantra”.
After that came a run of EPs and singles on Mainframe Audio, up to lil spirits in 2023. They then moved to Young in 2024, opening with “Talk To Me” alongside FKA twigs.
It’s been a strong autumn for the Essential Mix. Last month we had Four Tet’s Boomtown Essential Mix, recorded on the Hydro XL stage.
Prefer the BBC version? The full show and tracklist are on BBC Sounds. Radio 1 Dance is also repeating it at midnight on Thursday 5 November.
