The Cesco Open Ground set is now on SoundCloud, full tracklist included. The Bristol producer played two hours at the Wuppertal club on 5 September, flying the flag for 1985 Music. SP:MC is credited on the recording.
It was a 1985 Music takeover of Open Ground’s main room. Label boss Alix Perez made his debut at the club that night. Tasha played, and SP:MC was billed for a DJ set. Open Ground’s own listing said Cesco “blurs genres with his minimalist productions and eclectic sets”.
The recording backs that up.
Inside the Cesco Open Ground set
He opens on his own dub, “Xylodome”. Next comes his remix of “Chop” by Griminal, Coza and Pent1. Then his take on Breakage and Shy FX’s “Say Less”, with IRAH and Mr Williamz. That remix came out on Digital Soundboy last December.
Garage gets a proper look-in early on. Sammy Virji’s “Bogeyman” is in there. So are Notion and Snowy’s “On It” and Bakey’s “Jackpot”.
The middle stretch is where the 140 crowd will lean in. Sir Spyro and Killa P’s “Start & Stop” sits near Taiki Nulight, P Money and Jolie P’s “Stay In Your Lane”. After that come DJ Hybrid’s “Big Four Five” in its 140 VIP and Flava D and Stush’s “Energy”. There’s also a Taiki Nulight flip of “Topper Top”.
The final section switches to drum & bass. Foreign Concept, Sam Binga and Fox’s “Meditation” leads into Skeptical’s “Freudian Slip”. Fracture and Alix Perez’s “Realise” follows, then Breakage’s “KMS”. Fittingly, it signs off with another dub remix of “Say Less”.
Cesco on 1985 Music and Pineapple
Cesco first appeared on 1985 Music on the label’s Edition 2 compilation in 2019. Since then he’s put out the Up The Place EP and the Fake EP with Sparkz and Sepia. Last November brought “Rigid Lord” with NINA.
Plenty of his own catalogue makes the set. “Superstealth”, “GITP” and “Swing King” with Hamdi all get played. So does “Attention”, his collaboration with Hijinx.
He’s also got a new one out. The Niche Flex EP, made with Sam Binga and Machinedrum, landed on Pineapple Records on 18 September. You can buy his records direct from Cesco’s Bandcamp.
He’s no stranger round here, either. Back in May we posted his Rinse FM session with Taiki Nulight, Flava D, Nitepunk and Bluff.
